1) Summerside Electric Summer Engineering Student, May 2023 – August 2023
$15.50-$19.50 per hour, depending on qualifications

This position is responsible providing engineering support services for various City projects regarding utility infrastructure. Work involves considerable contact with other municipal employees, contractors and the public and may involve working irregular hours.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position candidates must:

  • Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Be an engineering student in a post-secondary institution

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up of work packages/work orders
  • Assist with Engineering Drawings and assessments of infrastructure
  • Assist with data entry of database information on utility assets and conditions
  • Assist with archiving/library of engineering/maintenance documents
  • General Office Support

Desirable Knowledge Abilities and Skills:

  • Utility (Water/Sewer and/or Electric) experience an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic surveying.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer and other applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors and the general public.

Culture Summerside AssistantCulture Summerside $21.00/hour (part-time)

The City of Summerside is seeking a highly motivated team player, to help support the implementation of the City’s Arts, Heritage, and Culture Programs as the Culture Summerside Assistant.

Reporting to the Director of Culture Summerside, the ideal candidate will have post-secondary education or equivalent work experience in administration and have a good working knowledge of Summerside’s cultural assets.

The preferred candidate will be self-motivated and organized, possess strong administrative, computer and communication skills, and be able to work collaboratively and multi-task among several projects. The successful candidate must be comfortable in the learning and delivery of public programs, enjoy working with the community, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to work flexible hours. This is a part time position of 20 hours per week.

French and knowledge of other languages would be considered an asset. Most importantly, you must have a passion for excellence, as well as a strong interest in the City’s arts, heritage, and cultural programs.

Summer Engineering Student, Term Position: May–August 2023
$15.50-$19.50 per hour, depending on qualifications

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Engineering student at a post-secondary institution.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for PEI and access to a vehicle.

Nature of Work

  • This is a responsible position providing construction inspection services for various City projects.
  • The student engineer shall supervise various municipal construction projects and shall act as the primary contact with the contractors and the public for these projects.
  • Work involves considerable contact with other municipal employees, contractors, and the public and will involve working irregular hours.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide on-site inspection of work including but not limited to, review of construction methods, measurement of quantities, initial verification of invoices and change orders, performance or coordination of test and recording of results, checking of grades, elevations, and alignment of work.
  • To ensure proper safety practices are followed on the job sites.
  • To assist the Municipal Engineer and Assistant Municipal Engineer with planning and supervising work.
  • To maintain construction records and prepare reports.

Desirable Knowledge Abilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of general construction principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic surveying.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, orally, and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer and other applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and the public.

Daytime Lifeguard(s), Community Services Department $14.95/hour

 The City of Summerside is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Daytime Lifeguards within the Aquatics Department of our Community Services Division. Duties will include all aspects of supervising pool users and maintaining the Aquatic Centre at Credit Union Place. This position is required for morning and afternoon shifts.

Requirements:

-Current National Lifeguard Certificate

OR

-Willing to train with our Aquatics Manager in order to take a challenge exam for the Bronze Cross and then take part in the National Lifeguard Certificate Course in the new year.

-Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate

Instructor certification would be considered an asset but is not required. Lifeguards must be in good physical condition, be of good character, have good communications skills, and be courteous to the public.
