1) Purchasing Agent, Municipal Services (Replacement Position)
The Purchasing Agent is a highly responsible position that purchases goods and services for departments, as well as providing inventory control for the City of Summerside.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of tenders for goods, services, and purchase agreements
- Analysis of bids received
- Inventory control
- Issue and control of purchase orders including timely delivery to the Finance Department
- Arrange for delivery of inventory by requisitions ensuring that items are within applicable operating budgets
- Negotiate prices with suppliers on items not requiring tenders
- The individual must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with management, municipal employees, and suppliers.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Progressive experience in municipal purchasing and inventory control
- Shall possess a valid Class 3A driver license
- Be able to operate a forklift.
- Appropriate purchasing training courses would be an asset
- Shall be willing to participate in training programs as required
- Shall have a thorough knowledge of electrical equipment and material
- Knowledge of the principles of municipal purchasing including preparation of tenders, purchase agreements, inventory control and purchase orders
- Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing
- Shall be willing to learn other job classifications withing the electric department
- Shall have good administrative and organizational skills with experience using Microsoft Office 365

2) Museum Interpreter, Culture Summerside Summer Student Staff
Are you looking for a dynamic summer job opportunity in the heritage and culture field? Culture Summerside (the arts, heritage, and culture division of the City of Summerside), is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified student for the position of Museum Interpreter to offer an exceptional museum experience to our residents and summer visitors. Duties will include providing guided tours of historic sites and museums including the Wyatt House Museum, Lefurgey Cultural Centre, the Summerside Interpretive Centre, and the Bishop Machine Shop Museum.
The position will also require participation in delivering cultural programming, conducting research, and handling front-desk duties including greeting visitors, providing information about our heritage and cultural assets, and handling financial transactions. The ability to memorize content and comfort with public speaking are required to deliver a top-notch experience to visitors. The ideal candidate for this job should have a passion for community history, ideally with history, museum, or education as their major study of focus, or with experience in these fields. They should have an above average level of communication skills not only in public speaking and presentation but also in reading and understanding information. Candidates should have strong computer skills and a good working knowledge of social media platforms. An outgoing, friendly, and diplomatic demeanor is also important for this position. Experience working with the public and with diverse audiences will be an asset. Having bilingual communication skills is an asset.
This summer position is 37.5 hours per week with a wage of $15 per hour.

3) Full Time Police Constable
The City of Summerside is accepting applications for a full time Police Constable.
Duties:
To assist in the operational activities of the department and take direction from all senior officers of the Police Services. To investigate any offences and to enforce the Municipal, Provincial and Federal Statutes. To prepare documentation for court purposes and to respond to calls for assistance and service to the general public along with the discharge of other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of the Atlantic Police Academy, or equivalent and have a valid driver’s license. A good knowledge of police duties; a good knowledge of an operational Police Command Centre; knowledge of general office procedures including record keeping. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to maintain professional work relationships with other members of the force and the general public. Must be able to take orders and be physically fit. Definite assets include a University Degree, PROS training and being bilingual.
Salary: As per Collective Agreement $73,481 - $91,433

4) Daytime Lifeguard(s), Community Services Department $14.95/hour
The City of Summerside is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Daytime Lifeguards within the Aquatics Department of our Community Services Division. Duties will include all aspects of supervising pool users and maintaining the Aquatic Centre at Credit Union Place. This position is required for morning and afternoon shifts.
Requirements:
-Current National Lifeguard Certificate
OR
-Willing to train with our Aquatics Manager in order to take a challenge exam for the Bronze Cross and then take part in the National Lifeguard Certificate Course in the new year.
-Valid Standard First Aid and CPR certificate
Instructor certification would be considered an asset but is not required. Lifeguards must be in good physical condition, be of good character, have good communications skills, and be courteous to the public.
