Summerside Arts Fest Invites the Community

Posted on 05/14/2025

SUMMERSIDE, PE Wyatt Heritage Properties Inc. in partnership with the City of Summerside is proud to announce the return of the expanded Summerside Arts Festival under the 2025 theme “Make Your Mark.” Running from May 31 to June 18, the festival promises over two weeks of creativity, community engagement, and hands-on artistic experiences across the city.

This year’s festival has expanded in both scope and spirit, transforming from a site-specific event into a city-wide celebration that brings art directly into the heart of Summerside’s neighbourhoods, gathering spaces, and community hubs.

“Our goal was to grow the festival in a way that captures Summerside’s vibrant creative energy while creating opportunities for people of all ages to take part,” says Councillor Nick Cameron. “From professional workshops and live painting to community art projects and youth activities- it’s about inclusion, interaction, and impact.

 Festival highlights include:

 • Make Your Mark: Opening Night Art Battle (June 1 at Evermoore Brewing Co.) – A live painting competition where six artists face off, three rounds, one champion, and the audience decides the winner.

 • Creative Community Series (June 2–6) – A week of interactive workshops led by local artists in venues across the city.

 • Draw of Art: Magnetic Art Exhibit – A city-wide sculpture trail inviting residents to explore Summerside through playful, public art installations.

 • The Collective Current at Art Buds Gallery (June 4–5) – A hands-on fish-decorating workshop culminating in a large collaborative installation.

 • Art in Bloom (June 7) – An outdoor garden showcase of artists and live music at Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour.

 • Art Alley (June 7) – A special Arts Fest edition of the Summerside Farmers Market with artist booths, live music, and collaborative projects.

 • Creative Kids Day (June 8) – Bucket drumming, puppet-making, drop-in art stations, and children’s entertainment to ignite young imaginations.

 • Workshops including basket-weaving, plein air painting, fibre arts, abstract art, and more.

 • Mark the Block: Neighbourhood Art Project (June 14) – The grand finale with music, BBQ, and collaborative community art project to close the festival with joy and colour.

The festival wraps with the opening of a new Rug-Hooking Exhibit at the Lefurgey Cultural Centre on June 18, titled “Hooked on Maurice: Art in Wool” presented by the Lady Slipper Rug Hooking Guild.

All programming is community-focused, with many events free or low-cost, and designed to be accessible, interactive, and inspiring.

Mayor Dan Kutcher also emphasized the importance of community-based cultural events:

"Summerside is a city that values creativity, connection, and community pride. The Summerside Arts Fest is a perfect example of how we can celebrate local talent while inviting residents and visitors alike to get involved, express themselves, and make their mark on our city. This growing festival is not just about art— it’s about building a sense of place and belonging through shared experiences."
