Summerside Conducts Wildfire Prevention

City of Summerside Leads Coordinated Wildfire Prevention Operation Across Parkland / Greenspaces
Posted on 08/08/2025

SUMMERSIDE, PE In response to an increasingly high fire index and a province-wide burn ban, three key departments from the City of Summerside - the Summerside Fire Department, Summerside Police Services, and the City's Communications Department - joined forces on Friday for a targeted wildfire prevention initiative within City limits.

The cross-departmental team conducted a proactive sweep of several key green spaces, including Rotary Friendship Park and Heather Moyse Park, to identify encampments, fire hazards, and other public safety risks that could contribute to the ignition and spread of wildfires.

With dry conditions persisting and neighbouring provinces combating devastating wildfires, the City is taking a firm stance on local prevention efforts.

“Public safety is a shared responsibility, and collaboration across departments ensures we’re not only prepared but also preventative in our actions,” said Acting Chief Administrative Officer, JP Desrosiers. “We are grateful to our teams for stepping up and utilizing advanced resources to protect our residents, visitors, and green spaces.”

To access hard-to-reach areas, responders deployed a fast-response side-by-side rescue vehicle, drone imaging, thermal and high-resolution cameras, and real-time communication equipment. These tools allowed teams to navigate and scan dense terrain efficiently and identify issues that could otherwise go unnoticed.

This coordinated effort showcases the City’s proactive approach to wildfire prevention, public safety, and environmental protection — and reflects its commitment to protecting both its natural spaces and its community members.
