SUMMERSIDE, PE - Halifax, Nova Scotia and Summerside, Prince Edward Island are proud to announce that their collaborative hosting of the Rivalry Series, presented by Kildare Fisheries, has been named “Event of the
Year” (Operating Budget $100,000 – $500,000) at the 2025 Event Atlantic Summit – Excellence Awards.
This prestigious award is presented to an event that exemplifies industry best practices in all aspects of its operation. Honourees are recognized for stimulating the economy in their community, region, and province, while demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability initiatives, inclusivity arrangements, and delivering a high standard of attendee satisfaction.
The Rivalry Series brought Canada’s National Women’s Team and Team USA to Atlantic Canada for back-to-back matchups that drew thousands of fans and showcased the region’s passion for women’s hockey. Game 4 took place at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, while Game 5 was held at Credit Union Place in Summerside—both to sold-out or near- capacity crowds. The Halifax game attracted nearly 9,500 fans, generating a direct economic impact of $1.45 million for the city and province. In Summerside, a sold-out crowd of nearly 4,700 delivered an impressive direct impact of $712,000.
The Rivalry Series extended far beyond the rink. Organizers implemented youth mentorship programs, open skates, coaching clinics, and school visits, creating unique opportunities for young athletes to connect with the game’s top players. Cultural programming—including Indigenous ceremonies and the recognition of the Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes—ensured the event reflected and celebrated the diverse history and communities of Atlantic Canada. More than just two thrilling games, the Rivalry Series represented a true celebration of women’s hockey. Its legacy will inspire the next generation of athletes and continue to elevate the sport across Canada and the U.S
