CITY OF SUMMERSIDE UNVEILS 2026-27 BUDGET

SUMMERSIDE, PE - The City of Summerside has released its 2026–27 budget, focused on strategic investments that

support young working families, older adults, and the continued growth of a fun and vibrant community.

The budget includes more than $26.7 million in capital investments to maintain and renew infrastructure across the city.

 

 Property tax rates will remain unchanged, reflecting Council’s commitment to affordability while continuing to deliver

essential services and support future growth.

 

 Key infrastructure investments include $9.2 million in Technical Services projects, including $3.5 million for water

system upgrades, $3.2 million for sewer improvements, and $1.02 million for storm sewer remediation, along with $1.5

million to complete the East-West Housing Corridor/Cairns Boulevard, improving connectivity and supporting development.

 

 Municipal Services will see approximately $6.77 million in capital investments, including $301,000 for street

resurfacing, $320,000 for a replacement salt truck, and $50,000 for the Culvert Connect Program, along with $6.1

million in electrical utility investments to support system reliability and future growth.

 

 Public safety remains a priority, with $6.28 million invested in emergency services, including $5.5 million toward

construction of a new fire station and $478,600 for fire and police equipment upgrades, along with staffing investments for the Summerside Police Service.

 

 The budget also includes investments that enhance quality of life across the city, including $850,000 for park and recreationimprovements, and $427,000 for boardwalk remediation along the waterfront.

 

 Council will continue supporting community programming through the $568,500 Community Support Program, $290,000 for downtown infrastructure improvements, and continued investment in public art and community events. An additional $1 million has been set aside for potential initiatives emerging from the Downtown Transformation Committee.

 

 “This budget invests in the people who make Summerside such a great place to live,” said Mayor Dan Kutcher. “We aresupporting young working families, ensuring older adults have access to safe and accessible infrastructure, and continuingto invest in the parks, events, and community spaces that make our city fun and vibrant.”
