SUMMERSIDE, PE The City of Summerside is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Blacquiere as the new Chief of Police for the Summerside Police Service.

A highly respected veteran officer with over 25 years of distinguished service, Chief Blacquiere brings a wealth of experience, exceptional leadership, and a deep commitment to community safety. Since his appointment as Deputy Chief in October 2022, he has played a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and advancing key initiatives within the department.

“On behalf of the City of Summerside, I am extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Blacquiere as the new Summerside Chief of Police,” said J.P. Desrosiers, Chief Administrative Officer for the City. “Jason’s extensive experience, proven leadership, and steadfast commitment to community policing make him the ideal choice to lead our police service. He has earned the trust and respect of both his colleagues and the wider community.”

Mayor Dan Kutcher also commended Blacquiere’s promotion, noting: “Chief Blacquiere is a familiar and respected face in our community. His dedication to public service and his ability to lead with integrity and compassion reflect the values of our city. We are confident that under his leadership, the Summerside Police Service will continue to serve our residents with excellence.”

Chief Blacquiere began his policing career in 1999 with the Summerside Police Service, starting in general patrol before advancing to specialized investigative work with the Prince District Joint Forces Drug Section from 2005 to 2007. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, serving as corporal, sergeant, and station sergeant, where he oversaw operations, training, recruiting, and media relations. He also completed three terms as acting deputy chief before his formal appointment in 2022.

Throughout his career, Chief Blacquiere has undertaken extensive professional development, including advanced training in forensic interviewing, critical incident command, and senior police administration through the Canadian Police College. He also holds a management certification from McMaster University. Beyond his professional duties, Chief Blacquiere is an active member of the community, coaching minor sports and co-founding the annual Cops for Christmas event.

"Chief Blacquiere has always approached his work with professionalism and heart. His promotion is well deserved, and I know our police service is in good hands,” said Councillor Carrie Adams, Council Liaison for Emergency Services.

The City of Summerside extends its heartfelt congratulations to Chief Jason Blacquiere on his appointment and looks forward to his continued leadership in keeping our community safe, connected, and thriving.
