SUMMERSIDE, PE - The City of Summerside announces the upcoming retirement of Chief Sinclair Walker, who will officially step down on May 5, 2025—marking exactly 45 years of dedicated service to Summerside Police Services.
Chief Walker began his remarkable career with Summerside Police Services in 1980, following his graduation from the Atlantic Police Academy in 1978. His rise through the ranks has been defined by commitment, integrity, and exemplary leadership. Promoted to Corporal in 1989 and Sergeant in 1990, he served as Deputy Chief for 11 years before being appointed Chief of Police in 2022.
“Chief Walker’s legacy is one of unwavering public service and extraordinary professionalism,” said Mayor Dan Kutcher. “For 45 years, he has devoted his life to keeping Summerside safe, and we are grateful for the profound impact he has made on our community.”
Over the course of his career, Chief Walker led the Major Crimes Section for 18 years and served as the department’s Forensic Identification Officer. He was recognized as the only member of Summerside Police Services to be designated an Expert Witness in fingerprint examination, footwear comparison, and speed analysis from tire skid marks—providing expert testimony at all levels of court.
His list of career accolades is extensive, including:
- Police Exemplary Service Medal (20 years)
- 30-Year Bar and 40-Year Second Bar, awarded by the Governor General of Canada
- Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal (2011)
- Vice Regal Commendation from the Chancellery of Honours at Rideau Hall
- PEI Crime Stoppers Police Officer of the Year (2018)
- King Charles III’s Coronation Medal (2025)
Chief Walker has been deeply involved in community service, volunteering with numerous organizations including the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Society, Breakfast Buddies, and the College of Piping and Celtic Arts Centre. He also served as an Aid-de-Camp for three Lieutenant Governors over a 14-year span and played a key role in initiating a mental health support program for members of the police service.
“Chief Walker’s commitment to both policing and public well-being is unmatched,” said JP Desrosiers, Acting CAO. “He has been a pillar in our police department and our community. His leadership will be remembered and celebrated.”
Chief Sinclair Walker’s retirement marks the end of an extraordinary era for Summerside Police Services. The City extends its heartfelt thanks and sincere appreciation for his decades of service, and we wish him continued success, health, and happiness in his well-earned retirement.
